Is powder coating expensive?

Although powder coatings are up to four times more durable than quality liquid coatings, up front costs are generally less. This is, in part due to the elimination of rejects caused by drips and sags common with paint, primer coat required, lower costs in complying with EPA regulations, and virtually no hazardous waste removal. And because powder is baked on, PCSI also eliminates the time it takes paint to "dry", allowing for a fast turnaround in less than a few days. With powder coating being recognized by end users as a superior finish for durability, longevity and beauty, manufacturers powder coated parts are in higher demand than that with wet paint finishes.

How long will powder coating last?

Although we offer a one-year limited warranty, powder coating, when applied properly over a clean pre-treated metal substrate should have a life span of 15-25 years. Longer life spans can be obtained by using specially formulated under coatings.

Facts customers should know.

In general, powder coatings are applied by a spray gun similar to that of a paint gun.

Ease the edges of metal parts slightly (powder coatings have difficulty covering sharp edges)

Acute inside corners can have coverage voids due to what’s called a Faraday Cage Effect. Because powder is applied electrostatically, an electrical charge can build up on the outer parts of the corner causing the powder to be repelled. We can generally overcome this through various steps.

Don’t use auto body fillers on parts. During the cleaning and baking process, it usually comes out. Any putty used must be metal based, waterproof, and able to withstand temperatures of 400`F for over an hour. Contact us for suggestions.

Although we can usually perform amazing feats, to prevent damage, some parts should not be powder coated. Contact us with questions. See our PriceBook.
